After the 7th service they Gave me a full credit. The machine is good when it works . if you are going to get one get a full loooong term warranty (NOT WITH MAYTAG!!!!) with any reputable resseller -Sears, Home deport, Lowes, etc) dont buy it without it because after the 1st year you are stuck with it, better said without it .....

Cleans Clothes Well When It Works |

| Cons:
Motor Control Board Fries and needs FREQUENT REPLACEMENT Bought our Neptune (MAH5500BWW) from SEARS on February 3rd, 2002. May 28th, 2004 the motor control board was replaced - a $280.00 repair. Today is February 24th, 2007 - the same circuit board needs replacement again - and you guessed it, SEARS is now asking over $300.00 for the repair work. The orginal price for this JUNK HEAP was $999.99. I CANNOT RECOMMEND buying this Maytag - AND...I CANNOT RECOMMEND buying a SEARS service agreement. How do you spell Best Buy?

Everyting about this washer I purchased my first Maytag Neptune in 2002 and I was very excited. That didn't last very long. I was getting brown spots all over my clothes, bed linens, towels, anything I put in there. I contacted the store I bought it from and they determined that it was the balancing liquid (basically oil) that allows the drum to spin so they replaced the drum. New drum did the same thing, so they finally replaced the entire machine. I have had the new machine for about three months (it's now Dec. 2006) and I have had a mildew smell that I was told is can happen. Looking online, Maytag is notorious for this problem, even had a class action lawsuit against them. Also the machine is very loud and sounds like it's grinding when washing. I contacted everyone at Maytag (summer 2006), even sent a certified letter to the new CEO of Whirlpool Jeff Fettig (since they just bought Maytag). No response. The customer service folks at Maytag basically tell you too bad and are rude about it especially Debra Michel with Maytag Corporate Customer Service. You go into every store that sells this machine and tell them you have it and the sales people feel sorry for you. Do not buy this machine. I am looking for a replacement! Anything is better than this machine! It doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Read Below If you love to get mold and rust on your clothes AFTER washing them, then this Neptune front-door washer is for you. I paid top dollar for this washer and it's been a problem with rust and mold ever since. There was a product recall and a repair person came out and replaced something in the front door, but to this day it's still putting mold and rust spots on clothing. The Magtag Repairman should be real busy...hauling 2 million of these front-loading Neptune washers to the local landfill...DON'T BUY IT...Magtag customer service stinks!!! I finally got through and some idiot who probably never washed a load of clothes in his life is asking stupid questions like, "Do you have it plugged it?".

Pros:
energy efficient machine |
| Cons:
Costly to repair, ill concieved, and overpriced I purchased this machine in March of 2002. By the end of the warranty period I forked over 165. to have it repaired. shortly afterwards the machine was part of a recall because of odor. I felt that Maytag was being fair in handling the situation and accepted the conditions of the recall with no objections. The technician even gave me some spare parts for the machine at the time. Yesterday I had it serviced because it wouldn't spin the water out of the clothes...my second major repair in five years. This time the technician gave me an estimate of 690.79. to repair my machine. Needless to say I'm chucking it out of my home forthwith. I've owned a few machines in my day but never an overpriced , short-lived lemon like this one. I called the Maytag company and told them that they must be out of their minds and that I will never purchase another of their products again in life. Their only response to me was that the machine was almost six years old. For the purchase price it should have lasted for many years more; after all I have a family of three. It was tenderly used and well cared for. Beware of Maytag products they aren't the dependable machines they're touted to be at all!

Pros:
When it works, works good. |
Cons:
Rarely works. I wish that we would have read the reviews on this machine before we purchased it. It would have saved us many headaches and costs. This machine has never worked properly, the mildew problem is a never ending problem and now the machine is sitting in our laundry room, not useable. Looks like we will be paying another $300 to have it repaired. Thinking that we will look into another washer, not one from Maytag though. Their commercial isn't very accurate.

Pros:
Excellent cleaing power and features;quiet operation |
Cons:
Lacks internal water heater I've used this Maytag Neptune washer for one year and am very pleased with its performance. It was a reasonable priced ($700 )washer with all the features I wanted. I particularly liked the fact that the door was reversible on this model, because I wanted it in a particular location. Cleaning: Very good/Excellent on everything I've washed, from my Queen-sized comforters to socks. The Max-extract spin cycle removes a great deal of the water from the clothes and makes drying them take less time. Vibration: A little vibration on the spin cycle, but nothing like my old Maytag top-loader.It has a very quiet operation, you almost wonder if its working. Reliability: It has worked flawlessly for one year. Mold and smell: NO MOLD OR SMELL,BECAUSE I FOLLOWED THE RECOMMENDATIONS in the OWNER'S MANUAL,page 8: "Leave the door open to allow the inside of the washer to dry out." "Clean the interior of the washer periodically to remove any dirt, soil, odor, mold, mildew or bacteria residue that may remain in the washer as a result of washing clothes. We recommend taking the following steps every 60 to 120 days to clean and freshen your washer interior."
