Pros:  COLOR GAMUT, VISUAL FIDELITY

Cons:  2ND GENERATION "TN" PANEL, IS STILL A TN PANEL I returned an ACER X243W 24" Monitor because as nice looking as it was sitting on my desk, the colors it displayed were horribly washed out. That was the result of a cheap TN panel, and no addition technology to off-set the negatives associated with a cheap TN panel. Nearly all manufacturers are starting to go the TN panel route regardless of monitor size. It's the technology thats used afterwards the make the use of a TN panel acceptable. If no additional technology is applied, then the use of a cheap TN panel equals one cheap looking monitor. At $305.00 after rebate, the ACER was probably still a decent deal, but I wanted someething that did not come across a a cheap 24" monitor. After days of research I kept coming back to the Gateway FHD2400. Although nearly twice the money as the ACER, and nowhere near perfect, the FHD2400 is about as close as one can get for the price. I was apprehensive about the glossy screen but it actually enhances the viewing experience. I just got this unit on 12/7/2007 so I'm still examining it's capabilities. So far, I'm pretty impressed. The few expert reviews at the time of this writing, are impressed as well, which says a lot. Negatives: Light bleed at top and around edges when screen it totally black; typical TN panels, red dot issues when monitor is not in sync with video card timing, viewing angle limitations. Positives: Gaming looks great (Vice City 1920x1200, night colors are spectactular), dark movies look good (Matrix Series) and the glossy screen gives web pages some pop. Overall, I'd give it a 8.0 out of a possible 10. Good Job Gateway!
