Pros:
Absolutely crystal clear display, 2x storage of iPhone and nano, WiFi, and excellent maneuverability |
|
|
|
| Cons:
no phone, no camera (but hey, my BB pearl works just fine regarding those features, and so should ur phone!) For those who want a sensible phone which does not require having to pay a minimum $60/month (up to $100/month) like the iPhone...there's the iPod touch! I got mine yesterday afternoon, and can't believe how jawdroppingly stunning it is. Sure, there's no phone on it, AND there's no camera on it...but it's one helluva iPod (I mean, isn't that why u buy an iPod in the first place, for music and video)! Paying $399 for a 16 gig may be steep for some, but if you think about it, you're basically paying the same price as 2 iPod nano's and the touch is about as skinny (the 16 gig I got is just a tad thicker than the nano, AMAZING). What other player offers such a crisp display (perfect for on-the-go movie watching). If you can bear to spend a little time carefully sync-ing what you NEED on your iPod (rather than dumping on your entire collection), then touch is for you! I've easily sync-ed about 4.5 hours of video and about 2000 songs, with plenty of space to spare. Features seem to be excellent...no problems with the playback, WiFi is an added bonus, and the display makes you want to cry (a safe distance away from the display). I've heard rumors of a 32 and possibly 64-gig touch, but that may require getting rid of flash memory (another iPod touch plus) and by the way...16-gigs of flash memory doesn't come cheap, at least $100 if ur lucky...so if you're willing to part with the phone and camera, then iPod touch is for you!

Pros:
Has an awesome screen, good features like utube, and safari |

Cons:
Back gets so easily fingerprinted that it is really anoying, also the battery life Well I dont have a lot to say (just kidding). Just that the product as a whole is excellent. I have been looking at a lot of reviews for the iPod touch such as on ARS Technica, Cnet, etc. and I have to say, why in the world are they giving this a 7.5-8/10 It just doesnt make sense. Clearly just because the iPod doesnt offer firewire or calendar on screen support doesnt mean that you should just completely bash the product as a whole. These and some shadowing effects. I will now proceed to state why those looking at these top reviewing sites whould be forewarned by an overly nitpicky group of reviewers. First of all i have to say that I use those cites so much and usually they are pretty much right but seriously Firewire. C'mon guys give me a break, this is the era of technological revolution and Firewire is like the Stone Age. USB 2.0 is so much more efficient and widespread that it is obvious why they took out firewire capabilities. (looking out for the company's best interests per se). And when it comes to the calendar, I am just a bit annoyed. APPLE CAN MAKE A SOFTWARE UPDATE/PATCH FOR THE TOUCH TO ADD THIS CAPABILITY. Just because you can't change your schedule right then and there doesnt mean that the whole product is a mediocre B! WITH A SIMPLE PATCH it can be added. Finally only a person with superhuman eyes or with alot of free time on their hands would even care about potential shadows appearing/lack dots whatever. We will be viewing this in the sun sometimes and as a result for all those who have taken physics you know what I am talking about! The dots will come. You can minimize them but anything over an equilibrium is just foolish. In conclusion, i think the iPod is a fine little product with so much versatility. Im not going to go hating on the product because it doesnt come with a charger, etc. I am here to review the product and I can not find a single thing horribly wrong so far other than the fingerprints but that is so minor. If you have a lot of music or just are a "gadgetophile" (I made that up =) buy this u wont regret it. And finally, the battery life can be prolonged by turning it off(yes you can and should do this to prevent excessive drain) because it is a Li+ battery, there wil be limited amount of charges. All in all, a pretty sweet product and worth the money! Thanks for reading and I hope that it clarifies or aids you in your search for "that Mp3 player"!

Pros:
Great responsive touch screen, small profile |
|
|
|
Cons:
Video quality could be much better, more accessories need to become available ASAP Well Apple pulled another fast one on consumers.
They initially announced that the new iPods wouldn't be available
until the end of the month....well they lied...at least here in
MD/DC/VA they did.
So how is it?
Well for one...it's SKIIIIINNY...almost 1/2 the size width wise of
the ipod video so it fits pretty well into your pocket. It comes in
a nice package which this time around does NOT include an iTunes
installation disk. I guess Steve Jobs figues that most people who are getting this are already either iPod saavy and have iTunes or PC saavy and know how to find and download iTunes. I think that small thing right there may be a wrong move regardless if you have
millions already using your previous iPod
incarnations...never
assume that new customers are saavy enough to get things working.
That being said...how well does it work?
VERY well....the touch screen really gives a feeling of going thru
your collection and you can use it either in the regular mode or for
better results, turn it on its side to thumb thru your music. If you
are familiar with iPods, you will have no trouble using this one.
The video on here is pretty cool but this is where it loses cool
points. The problem on here is altho the resolution is pretty cool
w/o noticable loss of framerates, in dark scenes, they look pretty
dark and almost to the point that some scenes reflect back looking
like a photo negative. The short term solution is to try to adjust
the brightness screen to compensate and hopefully Apple may come up
with a fix for that
The Wifi? Pretty darned cool...one of the biggest features they
held over from the iPhone will be a big draw for a lot of people and
will set the bar up high for the next PMPs coming out. This is not a
watered down browser, it's a full working version of Safari. You can even migrate bookmarks from your IE or Safari for usage.
There is much one can do. And since iPod has introduced the ability
to pinch and stretch screens, it makes it somewhat fun to navigate.
Sometimes a page may load and clutters some of the objects up on the
screen but otherwise, this is one the best ways to surf w/o having
to resort to a laptop.
I tried the YouTube function and it ran with no problems.
The only other smalll complaint I have right now is for everything
it has, it still looks like a delicate product, like it's one good
drop away from being broken. I have a few thousand songs and a ton
of video on mine and thankfully it's backed up but think of how
pissed one would be to get one of these and it breaks within a few
days because of an accidental drop. Altho Apple has released these
already, they still haven't released any accessories to adequately
protect these devices from a good drop, so if you have one, be
careful....
Also, if you are a bit anal like me and want to keep up the gloss on
it,
t would hurt to buy a plastic screen protector, because altho
the surface doesn't look like it will scratch easily, because of all
the constant touching, the protector and a good cleaner will go a
long way to keeping up this investment.
My last wish for this would have been if Apple had added on an FM
Tuner.
That was one of the big ups that Microsoft's Zune had. A built in FM
Tuner would really sell this but, with all the FM add ons they have
for iPods now, my guess is that Apple didn't want thier 3rd party
folks to lose money on that either.
To sum it all up, if you want something cutting edge, I would say
that this a great device, 16 GB is a start, I wish there was more
but hey, it's a flash device so what can you do? Some are asking
are you afraid of getting burned like early iPhone adapters did? All
I can do is hope that I don't but I think these will move because
altho they got them in early, many places are selling out as soon as
they get them; even some of the store workers don't have any relying on us for feedback. On a scale of 1 to 5 I give it 4.

Cons:
should've got the 32gb, needs too much tlc i'm coming on the scene with this device a little late...but glad i got it (at walmart in nh) first off...what a surprise about it's safari web browser...this completely beats microsoft's pocket pc explorer. does everything a normal web browser does (no cut-n-paste or copy/cut) the video player is excellent...nice wide screen, sharp image, and i didn't have choppy playback. ripped dvds, itunes music videos and movies...it'll all play on this gadget. music...always been apples strong point and the ipods bread-n-butter. very consistant from past ipods, and the cover flow music selector is very nice addition. the home menu is very organized with the option to create additional pages with more bookmarks/utilities. email program works great with google and yahoo! mail...only weak point is that google users won't be able to tab emails, and yahoo users won't be able to flag an email. all around...great device.

Finding free WIFI I am computer literate but not a techie and I have no desire to have a cell phone as they impress me as the world's most intrusive devices. However, as a constant traveler, I like being in touch without hauling a computer around. Voila! The perfect device. I have access, movies and music for long flights, and look like part of the 21st century without the annoyance of a phone. If only more places provided a wireless network! Big hotels seem to be the greediest now but that will likely change over time. For me, it is the prefect device.

Touch screen, album browsing, and most of the new features |

|
Cons:
Doesn't show lyrics of the song, battery life, and can't set pictures to be permenant wallpapers I'm very satisfied with the iPod Touch. The Touch is an overall great product, although it has minor faults although they aren't that significant it's something the other models have: the Touch doesn't show the song lyrics, making the On-The-Go playlist takes hours and the main screen always stays black you can't put a picture as a background. They probably could've put more memory but that will probably come out later so if you have over 3,000 songs it's not a good idea to get the Touch. The Touch is creative, elegant, and practical iPod. You can now input calendar events and contacts on the iPod rather then having to go through the hassle of iTunes. The screen is crisp and clear, unless you watch a dark video, then it looks awkward. I've had the video iPod, the 30 gig regular color iPod, and the iPod Nano, and the Touch is by far the best.

Cons:
Battery Is Poor I bought the Ipod Touch and I enjoy it for my music but it seems the battery is poor, This needs to be addressed by the company before they continue on. They say you only get about 300 charges at that rate with the 16 Gig unit it would only last 150 days????? Now the 8 gig I have is much better the battery last much longer. I think I will pass on the 32 Gig they are making now. Cheryl T Florida USA
