Western Digital WD Passport Portable WDXMS1600 Hard Drive

Product Description

Pack up your office files and take them home. Carry thousands of songs or pictures. These drives are simple to use, light and easy to carry, and require no power adapter - they are powered directly through the USB cable.

Installation is a snap because you don't really "install" this drive; you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in. Powered by the USB bus, so no separate power supply needed. This ultra-portable drive fits easily in your pocket or purse, weighs only a few ounces and holds tons of valuable data.

Pros:  Portability (if it works)

Cons:  Quit working I regret buying my WD Passport 160GB hard drive. It worked for a few days but it now produces the error "Unknown USB Device." I have tried it on several XP machines with no luck. I cannot get to the data on my Passport.

It has now become an expensive paperweight! The Western Digital site does not offer ANY help even though I am reading about the same problem so many people are having with their WD external hard drives.

I believe I have seen only two or three positive posts for this drive. All the others have been about not being able to get to their data because of the same error.

Pros:  plug-n-play, effortless drag-n-drop,

Cons:  no external power cord Purchased this product at Costco 2 months ago (with a $20.00 off coupon) for $120.00. It is truely a plug-and-play prduct which I connected to my Dell via its USB 2.0 port with an instant connection which allows me to drag and drop any file in my computer. Transfer rate is good.

This unit only comes with a USB cord and does not include external power supply cord.

Pros:  good space

Cons:  doesn't work the thing is a piece of garbage, sorry, but i never write reviews, let alone bad ones. i have no idea how to get this to work on my new computers, it worked for like 3 months on my thinkpad, but doesn't work on my computer at work or my new laptop (toshiba). i think i am going to see how many times it skips across the water . my educated guess based on my poor grades in physics ays it will skip about 4 times.
