Onkyo HT-S990THX Home Theater System
|
|
Product Description
The HT-S990THX is the first system to meet the parameters set by THX for overall system performance as opposed to separate loudspeaker and amplifier performance. In effect, the HT-S990THX represents a high-performance, powerful multichannel solution that combines the convenience of all-in-one systems with the performance of much higher priced separate components. With full THX processing capabilities - THX ASA-derived playback modes (THX Cinema2, THX Music Mode, THX Games Mode) - you can be assured that this system brings out the full potential of surround sound for all entertainment options. Equally as important, Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) gives the system a perfect base for stellar amplifier performance.

| Cons:
No HDMI I purchased this system a few weeks ago from Circuit City online, after listening to it at J&R music world in NYC. I got the system for $804 after rebates (it retails for $1100). I was really impressed with the quality of the sound, the bass reproduction was outstanding, and the 7 speaker system really works well if your speakers are connected correctly. The system can play all varieties of music and sound for movies with excellent sound reproduction, and very low distortion. Play the Ultimate THX demo disk, and you will not be disappointed. Installation was a breeze, and it is light years beyond the old stereo with EQ set up I had. In less than 1/2 an hour I was able to tune the system to the room type I have. I hooked it up to an older DVD player I had, and it works wonderfully. If you've always wanted a THX certified system, and don't have $3-5k to spend on individually certified components, then this is the system for you. My only advise is that you upgrade all the speakers from the cheezy 22 guage wire they supply and upgrade to 14-16 gauge speaker wire. An incredible bargain, if THX certification means anything to you.
