Pros:
30gb of storage, able to play video and show photos |
|
|
|
| Cons:
the black face scratches pretty easy so you need to buy a skin for it I had the zen micro before and this blows it away. the storage is great, I have over 1,000 song, hundreds of photos and over a dozen videos with plenty of space left. The sound appears to have been enhanced from the micro. It is also faster at navigating the menus and picking and playing songs. Screen colors blow the video ipod away. Ovearll I would recommend for anyone who wants a player w/ video and/or photos.

Pros:
Has lots of features and supports lots of formats |
|
|
|
| Cons:
Scratches easily This multimedia player has great video and audio quality. It has a FM radio, FM recorder, voice recorder. It supports mp3, wma, and wav audio, avi (divx 4&5, xvid5, motion jpeg), mpeg (1,2, &4), and wmv video. The battery can play back 14 hours of audio or 4 hours of video. I recommend buying a skin or case to prevent light scratching that will occur without one. Overall the Zen vision:m is a great entertainment investment.

Pros:
See below. |
|
|
|
Cons:
See below. Looks: IPOD is thinner and definitely looks better, but once the novelty wears off, looks become secondary. The ZVM despite being thicker will still fit into a pocket comfortably. The glossy surface does get scratch easily though.
Ease of use: Once you figure it out, the up-down scroller is really easy to use. The trick is in the "rapid scroll" feature located at both ends of the scroll pad, which allows precise one position movements as well as quick scrolling through long lists. The supplied software is idiot proof and integrates the ZVM into Windows Explorer like any other drive once it'ss plugged in. Nicely designed user interface.
Features: This is where the ZVM blows its competition away.
- Video: ZVM supports the most popular video formats like mpeg and divx, saving lots of time and money from doing the conversion. The screen resolution is bright and clear for both video and photos, and I never once experienced a skipped frame.
- Audio: you can expect the excellent quality found in all Creative MP3 players. Sound is clean and sharp, even with the bass boost on. Never experienced a skip or delay in playback. Supports album art (cool!) but not lyrics display.
- Organizer: Only allows the calendar, tasks and contacts to be synchronised from the PC. Personally I don't use this feature at all.
- FM radio and recorder: Great features to have, can be used in combination. No RDS though.
Battery life: Not as good as claimed. I've been using this for a month now, and I never clocked more than 10 hours for just listening to my MP3s. Maybe it's just me.
Other pros: Package comes with power adapter to charge straight from the wall.
Other cons: A stupid connector has to be used for everything - USB connection to PC, DC charging and AV out. Also, no AV cable supplied.

Pros:
Sound quality is excellent, Better features comparing to iPod videos, Excellent product overall |
|
|
|
Cons:
Kinda heavy that makes it less portable, And that "dongle" to charge and to connect to your computer I bought this Vision:M about 6 months ago and I am quite happy with it. I even once accidentally dropped it from a table when running and it's still working!! How wonderful ^^ (P/S: Please don't test this on purpose for obvious reasons =P)
The controls were a snap to learn but the touchpad was very sensitive. Fortunately, you can set the sensitivity.
The picture and the sound quality is excellent. Except that the bundled ear buds doesn't show the player's true powers. So if you have the money, replace it with some better ones and you can enjoy the sound quality of this player. The player accepts all but one type of my videos so far but I'm not complaining anyway.
There are plenty of options in this player. You can even set a sleep timer if you want to fall asleep when listening to it =P. The shortcut button near the touchpad is also very useful if you want to jump to any menu. You can even record radios. The player can also be used as an external memory and the size of the external memory can be set at 512mb, 1gb, 1.5gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb and 16gb. There is even a microphone embedded into the player but I didn't even use or test it out yet.
One can even change the theme of the player from the 5 themes that comes with the player. You can also schedule events or anything using a 3rd party program ... Not sure what is it again -.-" ...
Time for the bad parts, oh-uh. After a few months, the scratches will show up. However, the scratches are not as bad as the iPod's. But I still recommend you to get a case for it.
The reception of the radio is not very clear if you're in indoors but it's not much of a problem for me.
The software that comes with the player to transfer songs, pictures and videos is not very ergonomically designed but still functionable nevertheless.
There is a small adapter that comes with the player to connect it with the usb port, the charger and the a/v output to the player itself can be lost quite easily if you're not careful with it. I'm not sure if you can get a replacement one too.
The battery life is just so-so. It lasts about 5 hours on 1 charge for me with playing mp3 files at 160kbps and watching about 30 minutes of videos. This is probably because that I was impatient to play with it and didn't charge it to max when I first got it, bad mistake I made =P.
The manual that comes along in the box is also not very informative so you have to learn some stuff yourself. But doesn't take long anyway haha ...
The biggest complaint of mine is that the Vision:M is also quite heavy. I've found it quite uncomfortable carrying it in my pocket due to its weight when I'm shopping or moving around a lot.
However, Vision:M feels very solid in my hands and to sum it all, it is a must have gadget for any mp3/mp4 maniac ... or just someone who ones to enjoy music =P

| Cons:
heavy duty I bought the Zen in January 2006 when it just came out. so i've been using it for almost a year already.i owned an ipod and most of my friends have ipods. PPL. ZEN IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN IPOD. the front of Zen is scratchably but hey, thats what the skin is for! the back of the player, unlike the ipod, is NONSCRATCHABLE!! also, its also got a RESET button! just in case your player freezes, you dont have to freak out. simply poke the reset button and your player will go back to normal! to personalize your player, you can upload pictures onto the player and set it as BACKGROUND PICTURE. so now your player is uniquely yours. Zen also has a built-in FM radio (so much better than the dangling radio remote thing!) MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE ZEN IS VERY VERY VERY VERY DURABLE. MUCH DURABLE THAN AN IPOD. my friend now has 3 DEAD ipods because they all just broke when she dropped them. that is how bad ipods are. besides ipods are so old now, everybody has one and its just annoying to see someone having the exact same thing as you. at least get the microsoft ZUNE ppl. but ZUNE has many features limited. SO. I LOVE MY ZEN AND IT IS SO SO SO MUCH BETTER THAN AN IPOD!!!

Pros:
Good menu/navigation, great screen, nice touchpad, great sound quality, reads most formats |
|
|
|
Cons:
No charger included in package, not the best tech support, rather weighty I've been using this device for about two months, and since the initial euphoria has evaporated, I think I can give an [almost] objective review.
The choice was, obviously, between the iPod and Creative. I previously owned a Creative Zen Micro, and was quite content with it, until after a year of faithful service it was killed off by the service centre. So I decided to go for something that would play videos and songs alike.
The one thing that made me choose Zen Vision was the touchpad people so mercilessly criticized. I'm not a fan of clickwheel, even though I see the aesthetic side of it. So, the touchpad and crystal sound were my main criteria.
Now after a few months of usage I can say: it's worth the money. The touchpad is very nice [the clicking sound could be less loud though], shame they had to include buttons too.
The sound is unquestionable. If you have this player and the sound is bad in some way, then blame the track quality.
Zen reproduces videos flawlessly, and the battery life lasts for your average film, no complaints. Some vids have to be re-coded though, but it has all the necessary software.
Another good thing is the compatibility with WMP (and that's what I have).
A warning though - be VERY careful with your tags. It doesn't recognize things automatically, and you can end up with , tracks, albums and artists. It can mess up the album art too, so be watchful. If the tags are edited in WMP, things will go allright though. :)
Wrapping up - good stuff, maybe not as well-positioned as its mighty opponent, and not as pretty and shiny (and slim, let's face it), but it's well worth the money.

Pros:
great quality in sound and video, can pick a background picture |
|
|
|
| Cons:
None that I can think of... I am totally devoted to my zen. I've never been a fan of ipods, since all myfriends have them and most of them had to replace their ipods, more than once I might add. The zen can take different video formats, and its fairly easy to put videos on it, as well as pictures & songs. You can also customize your background picture, which you cannot do on the ipod. It also pretty much comes with everything you need, software, charger, usb cord, and head phones. Which I cannot say for the ipod video, the case is tiny only coming with itunes, headphones, and the usb cord. I'm not entirely sure but i think you might have to by the charger seperatly. My best friend has had trouble putting videos on her ipod and she has had it for over a year, while i have like 40 different videos on my zen and plenty space to add more. I've also only had mine for a few months. Not only is it easy to use but it also doesn't break easily. I dropped mine a total of three times from three feet in the air on the side walk without a case. So its good for someone with butter fingers like me. But I would still recomend buying a case... you don't want to take any chances. I know that I've bashed the ipod a few times but its just that i know about ten people who's ipods died on them. I know 3 who had to replace it twice, and 4 that had to replace it three times. The last three bought zens. So I highly recomend buying a Zen Vison: M

Pros:
Great battery life, excellent video and audio quality, plays many different video formats (no conversion necessary) |
|
|
|
| Cons:
Not as slim as Ipod (almost double the thickness), can crash every so often, If you are like me and want to store not only your music, but any videos, then this is the player for you. When shopping for a player, I compared this model and the Ipod video. Although the Ipod is significantly slimmer, the battery life on this Zen Vision lasts as long as advertised (Friends tell me their Ipods don't last nearly as long as it says it can). What sold me the fastest was that this guy can play Divx video files!!! No need to convert to a special file. The only other down side is the unit has locked on me and needs to be reset (have a small paperclip handy). In summary, if you're looking for a video/audio player and don't want Ipod, this is your player.

Pros:
Lots of featurers, sound quality, screen quality |
|
|
|
Cons:
Cheap ear buds, software provided, scratches easily I bought the 60 GB model to replace my second generation iPod. I really wanted an mp3 player for 2 functions, to hold music, obviously and to store photos. THe screen quality is what led me to choose this over the 30/80 GB iPod. It's just a much better screen and if viewing photos or video is an important feature to you it a betterchoice than the iPod.
A lot of people complain about the size, for me it isn't a big deal, it's about the size and weight of my 40 GB iPod. Compared to the new iPods it is a lot thicker, but it still fits easily in a shirt or pants pocket. As a piece of industrial design, though, you gotta love the Pod. The touch Pad on the Zen takes some getting used to, but you can change the sensitivity and I love the customizable hot key.
Video playback is not a big deal for me, but it supports a lot of formats, the FM radio is nice to have sometimes and the voice recorder comes in handy. The thing that I love the most is that I can download pictures from my digital camera directly to the Zen via the USB cable and an adapter. You can easily back up the photos on your memory card without having to carry around a laptop. If you take a lot of photos this is a great feature.
Battery life is good, I get 13-14 hours of music playback on a full charge. The sound quality is excellent, especially on high bit rate recordings. The earbuds suck and I broke them just a week after buying the Zen. I replaced them with some Shure noise isolating earphones - a great upgrade.
The black finish scratches, I would get a skin or case for it. The two piece docking device is somewhat of a pain and the supplied software isn't nearly as nice as iTunes. But if you have Windows Media Player 10 or 11 it works great with the Zen, so for PC people the supplied software shouldn't be a problem.
