Pros:
The good: Works with PCs and Windows Mobile handhelds and cell phones; simple, straightforward setup; no host PC or monthly charges required; decent video quality; easy-to-use viewing software |
|
|
|
| Cons:
The bad: No built-in wireless networking support; monopolizes the attached device; may not have necessary IR codes to fully operate your cable box; works with only Windows XP/2000 PCs and Windows Mobile devices (so far). The bottom line: If you can't live without your favorite shows, the Sling Media Slingbox is the best way to beam them to any broadband-connected PC or Windows Mobile device in the world.

Pros:
Watch your TV anywhere in the world |
|
|
|
Cons:
No Mac version yet I just bought a slingbox, and it just works. I don't remember the last time i set up a hardware and a software on my PC and it worked without any problem.
I now watch my TV on my PC anywhere where i have broadband.
Easy to use, good video quality (if you have a good broadband connection).
The Mac version is on its way.
Note that if you have one receiver only, you can not watch a different program on your PC than at home (ie, if someone is at home watching TV, you'll have to watch the same program).

Pros:
Sports, Drama, comedy when I want it! |

Cons:
not a perfect picture I purchased a Slingbox in September 2006 and set it up at at my sisters in California. I live in Germany and watch TV via her slingbox. I watch live US programming whenever I want and recorded shows from her DVR cable box. I record all my sports programming and favorite TV shows to watch the next day. With my sisters DVR I fast-forward thru the commercials!
The faster your internet connection the better. My sister has Cox cable as a service provider and I have T-com DSL. The computer hardware does not seem to be as important as the connection speed on both ends. I upgraded my PC to a 512MB video card and only saw a slight improvment. I do use the slingbox thru my wireless-G router without problems or picture quality suffering.
My only complaint with the slingbox is that picture quality suffers slightly during high action scenes, I.E. Sports! The green on the football field is tough. When this happens I have to reduce the window size from 19" to 12" to get the resolution I need. The good news is that Slingmedia is constantly providing software updates that help with picture quality and functionality. They now offer service for your Apple OS and many handheld devices.
This the single best purchase I have ever made!

Pros:
Virtually anywhere with a computer with a high speed internet connection |
|
|
|
Cons:
Sometimes somewhere just could not a strong signal Since I pay for only 1 cable box, I could only watch TV in living room with the main TV that connected to the cable box.
Now with the Slingbox, I can watch TV through the computers in my bedrooms, dining room, basement. And also with my laptop and wireless card, I can watch TV from my laptop virtually anywhere.
