Sony MDR-NC6 Headphones

Product Description

Shut off the outside world with MDR-NC6 noise canceling headphones. Ambient sound can be reduced over 10dB at 300Hz, which means you'll hear more music, and less plane/train/bus noise. Noise canceling headphones are great for work, traveling, or even when you're trying to sleep in a loud place. The MDR-NC6 has a slim swivel folding design, making them more compact for storage. Includes plug adaptor to connect directly to a stereo or dual jack of in-flight music services.

User Reviews for Sony MDR-NC6 Headphones
Reasonable NC headphones for a reasonable price

Pros:  Low cost, good performance

Cons:  limited low end response I have read reviews of various noise canceling headphones where it was obvious that the reviewer did not understand that the noise canceling only canceled continuous, low frequency sounds, like throbbing jet engine noises, the sound of the air conditioner, etc. It will not completely cancel the sounds of someone talking, general chaotic street noises, etc.

These headphones do a reasonable job of canceling the sounds that it was intended to do. The only issues I had with them were a weak bass response (relative to other headphones) and the level of hum present when canceling was turned on.

Since these headphones are designed for "on-the-ear" wear, they do not offer significant acoustic isolation that a completely over the ear version would. Likewise, the Sony earbud noise canceling version would also be able to block more external sounds, but for significantly more money.

For the price, the NC6 headphones offer a reasonable noice canceling capability at a slight cost of low end response.
