Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Software

Product Description

Office 2003 Editions can help organizations and their employees transform information into impact. New and familiar products, features, and functionality improve how people and organizations connect to coworkers, information, and business processes.

Advances in intranet collaboration through integration with the collaboration and information-sharing portal, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, enable employees to access and share information both internally and externally. Support for information rights management (IRM) and industry-standard Extensible Markup Language (XML) provide a platform on which to quickly build cost-effective solutions that can have an immediate impact.

Streamline communication and collaboration between internal and external team members using the desktop productivity programs that many people rely on every day. Enable teams to modify, access, and save documents in a central location using Document Workspaces. In addition, the Shared Workspace task pane displays tasks, related documents, links, and member lists that notify you when your team members are online. Document Workspaces and the Shared Workspace task pane require Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.

Share documents with team members and have control over what gets changed. Choose permission settings and allow coauthors to alter only the sections or formatting that you choose. Improve the efficiency of your meetings with Meeting Workspaces, which offer a centralized location for sharing agendas, visual resources, and other documentation. Meeting Workspaces require Windows Server 2003 running Windows SharePoint Services. Contact team members quickly with instant messaging (IM), which can be displayed in most programs in Office 2003 Editions and lets you know when your team members are online. Online presence information requires Windows Server 2003 running Windows SharePoint Services.

Help protect and control who can access vital business information using IRM, enabled by Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) on Windows Server 2003. IRM prevents or limits documents from being used in unintended ways, giving organizations and information workers greater control of their sensitive information. Help secure company assets by using IRM capabilities to prevent people who receive documents or e-mail messages from forwarding, copying, or printing documents and attachments. Reduce document sharing or unintended use by setting an expiration date on a document, after which it cannot be viewed or modified. Help protect your documents from being unintentionally changed by using Word Formatting and Editing Restrictions. Set permission controls on entire documents or portions of a document to prevent modifications or reformatting.

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 enables you to create IRM-protected content and grant other users the rights to access and modify your files or e-mail messages. Author, access, and analyze information that resides in disparate systems. Office 2003 Editions support the industry-standard XML technology that facilitates enterprise transactions and business-to-business data exchange. Manipulate and analyze XML business data. Office 2003 programs can manipulate, analyze, and format data from your most critical business systems. You can customize documents and task panes so that they integrate with XML data sources and outside programs. Empower users and reduce development time with XML. With Microsoft Office Excel 2003, you can use the visual mapping tool to connect a user-specified XML schema to fields in your spreadsheet. Customize smart tags to bring relevant business information directly into your work. Microsoft Office Access 2003, Outlook 2003, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 support third-party and customized smart tags.

In all Office 2003 Editions, Excel 2003 spreadsheets and Word 2003 documents can be saved in a native XML file format which can be manipulated and searched using any program that can process industry standard XML. With Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, companies can also use customized XML formats - or schemas - to enable easier and more advanced information creation, capture, exchange, and reuse.

Not a bad product

Ratings:  4 out of 5
Pros:  Easy to use for the most part, not many system resources used

Cons:  Pricy for what it is, and Microsoft does not have good support in the least While the products work well, they can be a bit hard to customize. Once you find your way around, you're fine. Sadly, Microsoft will not stand behind their products, so support is HORRIBLE. I might as well mess it up myself. Otherwise, this is a helpful program, especially in today's world.

Pros:  Everything included is great

Cons:  FrontPage 2003 needs to be purchased seperately. Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 delivers on its title's promise -- it is the ultimate office/productivity suite for the computer professional. Microsoft Office Word 2003 is a great word processor, which can create print documents (the most popular type of document today), web pages (you can save in either HTML or XML format), and much more. With it, you can use tables, columns, mathematical equations (with Microsoft Equation 3), and any other accessories for print documents and web pages. Microsoft Office Excel 2003 is an excellent spreadsheet program, which lets you create spreadsheets and web pages (again, you can work with either HTML ot XML). With it, you can use forms for Web pages, and save information in tablular format. Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 is a professional presentations application, which can be used to create presentations for print or for viewing on a computer, and save them as print publications or Web sites. With it, you can add tables, columns, hyperlinks, and more for presentations. Microsoft Office Access 2003 is a great database application, which can be used to create professional databases and save information in web pages. With it, you can work with tables, queries, forms, reports and much more for database use. Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager is an excellent comminications/schedules program which can be used for writing and reading e-mail messages, calendars, using schedules and more. With it, you can use advanced formatting with e-mail messages and work with professional schedules and calenders and manage business contacts. Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 is a professional publications application, which can be used to create Web sites and print publications. With it, you can use advanced formatting and scripting with publications. There are also some common features, namely Microsoft Equation 3 and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) 6.3 for writing scripts and macros. There is a disadvantage, however: Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 (the best program of all software for creating web sites) is not included in the package (but can be purchased seperately). Otherwise, Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 is an ultimate Office suite, when used with Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, which is explained earlier.
