Linksys Instant Wireless Wireless-G Game Adapter WGA54G

Product Description

The Wireless-G Game Adapter gives any wired Ethernet-equipped game console wireless connection capabilities. The Game Adapter can be used in two different ways. If you have an existing home wireless network and a cable or DSL Internet connection, the Game Adapter lets your PlayStation 2, Xbox or GameCube attach to the network so you can get into online games without running wires to the game room. Or, use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles for head-to-head gaming - in the same room, or all the way across the house.

It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform. Since there are no drivers to load, setup is a snap. In some cases, it works right out of the box! If your setup's a little different - just configure the network settings through your PC's web browser, plug it into your game box, and go.

The Wireless-G Game Adapter provides lag-free gaming with communication speeds up to 54Mbps when connected to other Wireless-G devices. It can also connect to Wireless-B (802.11b) devices and networks at 11Mbps.

Spend your time gaming, not stringing wires, with the Linksys Wireless-G Game Adapter.

What a horrible product!

Pros:  Makes a great paperweight

Cons:  Dropped signal, horrible software, tech support is a joke To put it mildly, the WGA54G is a worthless pile of garbage. I've had nothing but trouble since I purchased this game adapter two months ago.
I play Socom 2 online and I get booted every single night, usually every 20-30 minutes. I've spent countless hours with Linksys tech support. I even went out and bought a brand new Linksys Wireless-G router, hoping that the problem was with my Microsoft router...WRONG! I'm having the same problem.
I've spent a total of 4 hours with Linksys tech support...upgrading the firmware, changing the settings, etc. Anything you can imagine, I've done it.
The truth of the matter is this is a horribly unreliable product, period. I hope others don't make the same mistake that I did. This is truly the worst $100 I've ever spent in my life.

Pros:  Super easy installation

Cons:  ...haven't found any (yet) Prior to purchasing this product, I read roughly 40 reviews, and I must admit I was a bit worried that I would encounter the same issues many before me had. I was very wrong.
Let me begin by stating that my primary configuration for this product is for an Xbox. Literally, my setup was:

1) Open box, remove contents.
2) Insert install CD into computer
3) Configure (35 seconds)
4) Plug in to Xbox
5) Test, smile, write review.

I did notice 98% of the reviews I read concerned using the WGA54G for Playstation 2 use. (I also own a PS2, but will not use the WGA54G until Gran Turismo 4 comes out, and after I purchase the Playstation 2 internet adapter) I can only figure that there is some difficulty associated with using this product with the PS2.
The other 2% of reviews were for Xbox users, and, those reviews simply stated something like "I took it out of the box, and it worked!". For those of you who are looking to the WGA54G for wireless Xbox gaming, this product will be very simple to set up and use. I was 'Xbox Live' in about two minutes flat, without one problem.
When Gran Turismo 4 debuts on the Playstation 2, I will submit another review on this site, hopefully with the same results.
I should also note I am using the Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router with the WGA54G. I am a firm believer in maintaining brand-loyalty when using multiple components to perform similar tasks, ie: wireless networking.
As for giving support 3 stars, I have not needed support at this time, so I can't give "support" a good or bad rating.
Also, my intitial test of the WGA54G happened to be in a different room than the WRT54G (wireless router). Some reviews I had read noticed problems when the WGA54G was used in a room other than the one their wireless router was in.

Perfect!

Pros:  Wireless, No Lag, Easy Setup, Good Price

Cons:  Nothing! I don't see why people bash this item! This is one of the greatest things I have purchased! When I bought this at $90, I was a little worried it wouldn't work. Lots of people were saying it didn't work and they returned it. Well, when I got it, I had no idea what they were talking about. I got this thing working in less than 10 minutes! The setup was easy and fast, nothing complicated, then I just hooked it up to my Playstation 2 and it worked flawlessly! I have had it for 2 days now and I played games like Socom II and I have yet to experience lag. My room is about 100 feet from my router and there are walls in between. I have no idea why people are having problems. If you have a G-router I really recommend getting this because the speed is 54 MBPS and it's even beter if you have a Cable modem.
