Linksys Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge WET54G

Product Description

Connect any Ethernet-equipped device to a high-speed Wireless-G Network.

The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network. At home, use the Bridge to connect game consoles, set-top boxes, or computers to your Wireless-G network and its shared high-speed Internet connection. In the office, convert your Ethernet-wired printer, scanner, camera, notebook or desktop into a wireless networked device.

It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform and under any operating system! Since there are no drivers to load, setup is a snap - configure the network settings through your PC's web browser, then plug it into your device and go. And physical installation is simplified by support for Power Over Ethernet. With an optional POE Adapter, you can mount the Bridge wherever you want - power and data are both supplied through the Category 5 Ethernet cable.

You can also use the Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge as a kind of "cable-less cable" to connect remote areas together. Maybe shipping is all the way across the warehouse from receiving. Or maybe you want to set up a home office in your detached garage. With a Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge in the garage, and another one (or a Wireless-G Access Point) in the house, you're connected - no digging trenches, and no overhead wires.

Let the Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge from Linksys open up exciting new possibilities for your wireless network.

Bought What I thought would work

Pros:  It does

Cons:  No WAP yet After reading the reviews and seeing the few people who wrote a review complaining about the Linksys device not working, I doubt it was the device. They are all created equal and sometimes there's one in a thousand that fail or fall through the cracks.

The reason you might want to bridge a wireless network is so you don't have to purchase a wireless adapter for every computer you have. I have many computers in 2 different locations, so $$$ wise, the bridge works in my advantage.

WRT54G (house - with wire and wireless)
WET54G (garage - hooked up to a switch)
RT31P2 Vonage VoIP plugged into the WRT54G.

"Where did that easy button go?"

Netgear has been pretty good to me too (RT311 and Ethernet adapters).

Cons:  Life span is very short I have used with great satisfaction many Linksys products, and have also recommended them many times. This has all ended after purchasing this product. After 30 days of use the product died, so called Linksys and they replace it with a used unit. After two weeks of using the used replacement unit it also died. Again I had to pay to ship the unit back. They have had my returned unit for almost two weeks and when I call, now twice, they tell me it's going to ship that day.

Pros:  Easy to setup

Cons:  Dies a quick death I've been battling with this garbage for almost a month. It continually loses connection to my main router which is only 15 feet away. One day I went into the settings screen to change my network settings and it never rebooted correctly. Now the unit is dead. The reset button doesn't even work now. Taking this trash back to the store. If they won't take it back I'll smash it with a hammer right there in the store.

Cons:  just doesn't work - support is in india would not talk to my wrt54g. tried 2 different units. no go. i have 2 other computers on my wireless net with linksys devices, a pc and a laptop. those devices (pci card and pcm card work great). the support person was nice, but i think i know more about the products than she did. she tried to help but i think she was following a 'menu'.

Pros:  ? the color ?

Cons:  Doesnt work as it should I bought this device cos i own a linksys access point. So i thought that the best chance to success was buying the same brand. WRONG !

It is only able to bridge using NO security or the defect WEP. If I try WPA or WPA 2 with TKIP it breaks down and you have to reset. I tried AES , the link is up, but it doesn't bridges anymore.
I upgraded the firmware: no help.
I looked in the support: some guy reported the same problem 6 months ago, no answer.
I really tried all possible combinations but it just won't support anything else than WEP2.
Really believe me, i'm usually called to fix problems with computers from friends, but this is just an awfully bad product. I'm really angry with these guys, cos i feel so ripped off. Grrr!!!

Cons:  Bad manual, bad reset button, bad signal. I purchased this unit to wirelessly connect my DVR to my network. I've had it for about six months and have had to tweak it at least 40 times. This device drops connection at least 2 to 3 times a week. Some times it won't connect for days. I put my laptop in the same room and I get good reception, yet this device sometimes doesn't even pick it up the signal. I even went out and purchased the linksys high range antenna for the unit. What a waste of money as the reception did not change. Stay away from any Linksys wireless bridge, this is really disappointing, especially from a company that makes such great products.
