Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4

Product Description

The Belkin Wireless G Router lets users share files and a broadband Internet connection among their computers-without using networking cables. It features 802.11g technology that makes accessing files and networked peripherals-such as hard drives, printers, CD-ROMs, and DVDs-easier than ever. 802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. An integrated, 4-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch also allows you to connect wired computers to the network. 802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Router uses the wireless 802.11g 2.4GHz standard to offer you 400 feet of wireless coverage. 802.11g technology is backward compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi networking standard, so it allows you to implement faster wireless technologies in combination with existing 802.11b Wi-Fi networks.

Pros:  Easy setup, reliable, and it works

Cons:  only repeats/bridges with other belkin products The con won't stop me from buying Belkin again. The router fired right up, and had my wife on wireless in an hour. Our house is 4 stories here and with the router on the 3rd floor, the signal does good to get down to the bottom floor, but sometimes looses connection. The townhouse next to us is also on my wireless network, and his signal is sharp as well. The features in the firewalls and also with the MAC address filtering, as well as the server functions make this a rich, manageable, device that is a great starter to a full function wireless and wired network. File sharing is a problem, but maybe not the router's problem. You must purchase a belkin WAP or router to use as a bridge, as it only works with belkin products.

Pros:  Easy to install, good range

Cons:  Unreliable I had no trouble installing it and porting the settings from my older router from another brand. The range is good and it worked well for the first few months. Now I get disconnected at least once per day and must constantly power cycle it to get reconnected.

Pros:  None

Cons:  Many This my personal experience only: bought this or one like it with a promise of a rebate. The rebate never came through. Currently after about 7 months of use the last 3 months have been full of disconnections on the network level and internet level, incorrect timing of scheduling functions, and it is user interface mediocre. I am in the process of buying a new router now. I don't even want this one replaced by Belkin (anyway who knows it may or may not be covered by their claimed warranty). ...

Pros:  Easy to set up

Cons:  WILL NOT WORK!!!!! It won't work. it is as simple as that. I bought it for my ps3 and wii, but as soon as I get it hooked up, my internet on the computer will not work, but the internet on the wii and ps3 WILL work. I have read over and over each and every instuction to see what I am doing wrong, but I don't get it.

Pros:  Reliable connection, good range

Cons:  Had trouble initialy setting up. I had trouble setting it up at first. Called tech support and got a guy in Timbuktu some were. And we had to set up a cloned MAC address, after that it connected. I had some problems maintaining connection after that. It would drop connection once or twice a day then reconnect after about 10 or 20 seconds. I then downloaded the latest firmware, 9.01.10 and it's held connection for over two weeks. Although it may be inconvenient that firmware must be updated. It will fix many of the issues noted here. It's easy. You can download wireless.

Pros:  Easy to set up

Cons:  Didn't work correctly My husband and I decided to invest in a couple of laptops since we are both full time students and we were tired of fighting over the desktop. The laptop shopping itself was time consuming, and on our way out we realized we needed a wireless router. As I was reading the boxes, hubby rushed me to pick something as he was late for a meeting, so I grabbed this one (incidentally the cheapest one...you get what you pay for). It has NEVER worked correctly. Since the day we got it, it has constantly disconnected, rarely staying connected for as little as five minutes--we've had it two weeks. Today we went to Best Buy where someone suggested we just try to get a new cable since often times routers come with bad ones. We tried that full of hope that our problem would be solved--nope. We returned shortly after to purchase a Linksys. For the first time since owning my laptop, I have been connected for 3 HOURS. That should tell you how badly my Belkin worked--I'm excited over 3 HOURS of internet connection.

Pros:  Very easy to set up

Cons:  Requires CD Rom I like this router simply because it does what I want it to do. A router in my book does not have to be fancy or expensive to allow for a great high speed connection. I paid maybe 40 bucks for it and it works wonderfully. I had to call the 1-800 number to set it up b/c the main pc that we use for the cable connection does not have a cd-rom. The tech guy was very helpful and I was set up in minutes.
