Pros:

Cons:   Windows XP is the best Operating I have ever seen. Very Stable. Hasn't crahed on me since I installed it last month. It has some compatibility issues though. My DVD drive no longer responds and my my keyboard has some difficulties with. The Multimedia keys on it do not respond, but the rest of the keyboard responds fine. I like the fade effect for the start menu and the cleartype font. This version is a huge improvement in terms of interface and stability over the Windows 9x platform. Most of my applications run about twice as fast than in Windows 98SE and Windows ME. The overall boot time is about 10 seconds faster than the 98/ME incarnations. This OS is everything that Windows ME was supposed to be. I noticed that XP Professional has a built in firewall, although it's not as powerful as Norton Personal Firewall 2002. Its missing some features like blocking Trojan Horse applications, but if you have an additional firewall, everything should be fine then. Finally, XP has another feature that all other Windows OS's fail to capitalize on: burning CD's. Windows XP has a built in CD burning utility that allows you to burn onto CD-R's and CD-RW's. This is one powerful feat for Microsoft to make such a "Supreme" Operating System.

Pros:

Cons:   Now, this piece of work is somting else! its somthing new from the people who brought us microsoft windows 3.x, 95, 98, 2000, NT, and ME (millenium edition). It keeps on getting a helluva lot better with each new version so Im putting a $300 bet on anyone that thinks that its going to be any worse than its predicessors. But, the only reason I rate it a four is because of its steep price, i mean come on! 300 dollars for a little piece of plastic. but i guess thats the future. so until next time kiddies, this is Dan S. with your Software Review! peace!

Pros:  Excellent Operating System

Cons:  Little Pricey I had Window's ME and AOL, the worlds worst two Systems. I installed XP and all the lock up's and freezes went away.

AOL kept downloading data and ME just got worse, the switch to XP was great also XP has a built in firewall, a little tricky to set up but, it's worth it. The wizard for installing software and hardware is great.

Very few error messages!

Pros:  Sophisticated Operating System

Cons:  Not Reliable with Inkjet Printers If you're looking for an operating system that's compatible, durable, look no furhter. Windows XP Professional Edition is one of the most reliable systems on market so far. I purchased it about a week ago, but I'm so amazed at all the new features. One thing I really like is that the Desktop is not cluttered with program icons. Although Windows XP Professional isn't cheap, it's worth an investment. I'm from the old school; I simply believe that Windows 98 is an excellent operating system, but what makes Windows XP Professional so unique is the user friendliness. The graphical interface design is quite impressive. The Help & Support Section on Windows XP Professional is really helpful. You can seek any help from freeing disk space, to degramenting your hard drive, etc. From Windows 98 Second Edition to Windows XP Professional was a big jump for me.

The only problem I had with Windows XP Professional is that it's not too user friendly with my inkjet printer. I will eventually upgrade my printer, but the printer prints well, but it takes almost 30 seconds to print, but with Windows 98, the print time was fast.

One of the better OS's from MS

Pros:  Lock ups usually only affect the offending application

Cons:  Big target for viruses (If you worry about that sort of thing) Windows XP Pro has been far more stable than the home version. I have tried both OS's on 2 PC's and 2 Lap Top's. All 4 computers indicated this result. It is jam packed with nice tools and features for convenience.----------------------------------------

However, I have not been as impressed with XP as the stability of Win 2000. I have only had one PC (Laptop) with this OS. I have had a Compaq Armada with Win 2k since June, 2001 (Almost 3 years). Not once has this PC locked up or crashed.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you do not EXCEED the minimum system requirements for one of these OS's (XP Pro or 2000), I suggest sticking with Win 98 SE (Assuming you dont want to purchase a new PC)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not try upgrading your current PC. Your PC is only as fast as your weakest link. If you change your Main Board, Memory, CPU, and Video Card (these are the components that have the most impact on system performance) you have spent 90% of the cost of a new PC. It is not worth the savings.------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One last note... buying a name brand is much better than a generic PC. Here is the reasoning: The PC manufacturers have programers that write hardware drivers specifically for the PC configurations they sell. This allows the system to perform at maximum efficiency and reliability. IMHO, some good companies are Compaq(HP)(PC and Laptops), Dell (PC's only), and Toshiba (Laptops only).

Crashes all the time

Pros:

Cons:   I have XP in a brand new computer--this isn't installed over an older version. Crashes daily, out of the blue--even with no programs running. It creates error reports that I send on to MS, although they rarely respond, and then only to say they don't know. Wait a year or two.
